The Rose Roll Salt & Pepper is a unique wheat roll with a crunch crust flavoured with sea salt and black pepper. The inside is just as delicious, thanks to its mild, fresh flavour. Great for making trendy sandwiches even cooler, like this Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich.

Mise en place

< Max 4 hours in advance >

Defrost and bake the Rose Roll Salt & Pepper as indicated on the packet. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on a wire rack.

< Max 1 hours in advance >

Caramelise the onion: melt the butter with the sugar in a large pan. Add the onion rings and allow to caramelise on a low heat.

Preparation

  1. Melt some butter in the pan and fry the beef until medium rare. Remove from the pan, cut into strips and season with freshly ground salt and pepper.

  2. Cut the oven-fresh Rose Roll Salt & Pepper open and assemble your sandwich: chilli paste on the bottom and mayonnaise on the top of your roll.

  3. Top with the spinach, cheddar slices, beef strips and caramelised onion.

  4. Serve immediately!

Tips from the chef

Tip 1

"You can also substitute Danish chu chum with other spicy chilli pastes such as Korean gochujang, Tunisian harissa, Indonesian sambal or American tabasco."

Tip 2

"The authentic Philly Cheese Steak is made with provolone instead of cheddar. Normally, the only vegetable you'd use is onion, but in this version, we use spinach to add more colour and flavour, and you could also use pepper."

Tip 3

"You can also serve this Philly Cheese Steak in a long bun, like a Brioche Hot Dog Roll, a panini or one of the many demi baguettes. The choice is yours! Or let your customers decide..."

Did you know?

Rose Rolls are great for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. They are baked on stone, giving them an extra crispy crust and a wonderfully tender inside. We offer small and large Rose Rolls. The small rolls (55 g) will go down a treat at your buffets or catered events; the large rolls (100 g) we use in this recipe are more suitable for meals.
